Sarah Torkoly is sure making a name for herself in our city. Not only has she taken a risk in opening up the first drop-in dance studio in Edmonton, she has also developed and created a unique burlesque, dance-based fitness program, that is going city-wide (and soon across Canada). Owner of Dance Code Studio Inc, and creator of Burlesque Boom Inc., this home-grown Edmonton woman knows what she wants and sets her mind to making it happen.
At only the age of 24, she is successfully running and operating two companies that are inspiring the Edmonton community. She has been dancing for over 20 years, and has been dancing professionally for 7 years, making her way to the top 100 in So You Think You Can Dance Canada in season 1 and top 50 in season 2. She currently is on a one-year scholarship to Millennium Dance Complex in Los Angeles, which is one of the most sought-after training facilities in western USA. Travelling across the world to NYC, Toronto, Vancouver, Cancun and Europe, she continuously grows as a choreographer and trained professional.
At age 21, she decided to go for it, and opened up the doors to Dance Code Studio Inc, a home to graduated high school and post-secondary students who have a passion for dance and would like to continue training at a professional level. She now has developed her drop-in classes to over 35 classes a week! Day and evening classes, she runs a full kids training program ages 2-18 years and an apprenticeship program for grade 11 and 12 students. Her studio is modern and up-to-date; you feel nothing but great when you walk in and leave the studio. She donates to many inner city kids programs and gives out scholarships to dancers who may not be able to fund their own training.
With the development of Burlesque Boom Inc, she has now trained and certified 5 of her own clients who have been with her since the start. These clients now teach, and promote her program as a part time job! Her goal with the company in the next two years is to have 10 franchises set up across Canada. She lives and breathes her goals, and is thankful every day for the people that have come into her life to help her achieve them.
