Call-for-Papers: 4th Annual MLCS Undergraduate Conference, “Communicating Across Cultures” | By Ross Swanson

Looking for a chance to talk about your ideas and research about language and culture? The honours students in the department of Modern Languages and Cultural Studies (MLCS) invite all Arts students to submit your 100-150 word abstracts by March 1st for papers to be presented in this year’s undergraduate conference. The conference, which will take place on March 22nd 2013, will bring together students from diverse disciplines to discuss topics surrounding language, culture, linguistics and literature.

Presentations may be done in small groups, must be in English and should be about 15 minutes long. And, for those uncomfortable with the idea of presentations in a conference setting, Honours Advisor, Dr. Carrie Smith-Prei will hold a workshop for conference presenters on presenting in conferences one week before the event on March 14th. The conference is a great opportunity not only to gain experience in conference presentations and public speaking, but also provides students with a place for sharing their ideas and disseminating their research.

Send in your 100-150 word abstract together with your name, program of study, your topic and the title of your paper, along with any questions you may have, by March 1st to mlcsconf2013@gmail.com. Selected presenters will be notified by March 5th. We look forward to your submissions and to seeing you at the conference!
