As Deepa watched her Indo-Fijian immigrant parents make ends meet by working various labour-intensive jobs, she understood the importance of hard work at an early age. With the limited educational opportunities her parents had, Deepa was urged to strive for higher education, which was her parents’ Canadian dream. So she completed her BCom degree at the University of Alberta, and then pursued not only her Chartered Accountant designation, but also a Chartered Business Valuator designation. Now, she is a Vice President at MNP Corporate Finance Inc., which is part of one of the largest chartered accountancy and consulting firms in Canada, providing client-focused assurance, taxation and business advisory services. Specifically, Deepa assists her mid-market clients in reaching their full potential through capital raises, to fulfill their corporate growth strategies, and by facilitating merger and acquisition transactions.
In her spare time, Deepa writes inspiring articles on her blog www.wantmylife.com, motivating readers to design their life for success, while also providing personal tips and tricks aimed towards attaining goals. As a board director with the Business Alumni Association, which is part of the U of A’s School of Business, Deepa is actively involved with the Leading Women in Business initiative aimed to help female graduates progress in their careers, and the Engagement Committee, which strives to connect alumni with the School, its students and other alumni. She also acts as a mentor through the Alumni Mentorship Program, providing career advice to recent business graduates.
