Everything You Need to Know About Edmonton: August 9

An unfortunate discovery happened Friday morning as a body was discovered in a north side paper recycling plant named Capital Paper. The case is being treated as a sudden death and the Edmonton Police Service’s homicide unit is investigating. Police stated that this is the third body which has been found at the location as early as June 2012.

Edmonton’s food scene is getting a major boost! New rules and regulations now allow food trucks to operate almost 24 hours a day from 5 am to 3 am, and freedom to set up in more areas of the city. If you’re wondering what options Edmontonians have in food truck cuisine, check out this website.

If you’re not busy this weekend, Canadian Blood Services is looking for you! CBS is looking for a boost in donations to replenish dwindling stocks of donated blood. They hope to fill 450 appointments within the next two weeks. A fun run this weekend, called Stride, will give the blood supply a boost. Participants collect pledges for blood donations rather than money in the third annual walk or run event which is being held Sunday morning at Sir Wilfrid Laurier Park.

Now for a couple of fun events hitting the city this weekend:

The Cariwest parade, which celebrates Caribbean culture, will begin at noon on Saturday in downtown. So get your dancing legs on and join this great event! More info can be found here.

Animethon, an annual event held at Grant McEwan University that celebrates Japanese pop culture, is running throughout this weekend. The event which started in 1994 with only a dozen people attending has exploded to over 7000 attendees as of last year. If you want to learn more about “cosplay,” or just about what the hype is about be sure to check it out! More info can be found here.

Have a great weekend everyone!
