Overnight, the Toronto Blue Jays made themselves contenders in the MLB. The Jays pulled off a blockbuster trade with the Miami Marlins acquiring (most notably) All-Star SS Jose Reyes and Pitchers Josh Johnson and Mark Buehrle (among other players). In exchange, Toronto sent SS Yunel Escobar, Pitcher Henderson Alvarez, Catcher Jeff Mathis and others to the Rays.
The downfall for the Blue Jays last year was by far the combination of the inability of their bullpen to be consistent and stay healthy. With the addition of Buehrle and Johnson, Ricky Romero and Brandon Morrow finally received the help they needed. Combining their rejuvenated bullpen and the addition of Jose Reyes at short-stop, to one of the most explosive batting teams in the Majors with Jose Bautista, Brett Lawrie, Travis Snider and Adam Lind, the Blue Jays are a force to be reckoned with. Combining the above with a division that will see the Boston Red Sox most likely continuing to struggle next year and uncertainty surrounding the consistency of the Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays, the Blue Jays now become a legitimate challenge to the mighty New York Yankees in the AL East division.
Time for an “accurate” pre-preseason prediction!
If the Blue Jays perform as well as they look on paper and stay healthy, they will finish in a wild card spot and make the post season.
