Strawberry Rhubarb Pie Fuels Bears’ Rout of Howling T-Wolves | The Wanderer Sports

For those of you that read our Thursday articles, you’ll know that Nikki Way and the Students’ Union hosted the year’s first 2012 Farmers’ Market in the Students’ Union Building. The market saw local food producers sell delicious beef jerky, chicken, soup mixes, fruits and veggies all for a reasonable price. Oh, and they also sold RHUBARB PIE.

It just so happened that Bears soccer captain and fourth-year defender, Scott Gilroy, ventured to SUB to purchase some pie:

Two days later, Gilroy used the pie to his advantage, burning the 3000+ calories out on the Foote Field pitch, netting a penalty kick against UNBC. Throughout the game, Gilroy made a bunch of short passes, ran back and forth and fired a long cross to a streaking striker (no, not this kind of streaking) that led to the eventual penalty shot.

The Bears went on to win 4-0 and extend their record to 3-0, with 15 goals for and ZERO against. Marcus Johnstone scored another goal, as did Cam Schmidt and Moe Teliani. (Note: two additional game highlights were the Gilroys’ cheering section in the stands, as well as Johnstone’s slide tackle from behind on a UNBC player in the first half, following a questionable call from the ref.)

Though this article certainly encourages attendance at the SUB Farmers’ Market and the consumption of pie, the following behaviour is not encouraged:
