The University of Alberta Bears and Pandas tennis squad claimed silver in the annual CIS Championships, between August 10 and 12. In their first two matches, the U of A trounced UBC and Western, treating them like Andy Murray’s foes in the early stages of Wimbledon 2012. However, in the finals against the current Roger Federers of the CIS – the Montreal Carabins – the home side came out with a narrow victory, taking yet another nationals gold medal. Though second in Canada is a prestigious accolade, it’s safe to assume that they are looking for an Andy Murray Olympics performance, with the 2013 championship serving as the metaphorical London 2012.
More to come later this week.
