Over the past who-knows-how-many years, Lethbridge’s varsity sports program had one claim to fame: rugby. Every single year, the Pronghorns rugby team would win its conference, beating Alberta in the Canada West finals. This was like some divine law of nature, decreed by Pronghorn the Majestic God of Rugby. Though the Pandas would beat UBC and Calgary in 2011, 2010, etc., damn Lethbridge would wind up the Canada West champions (and thus, the sole team to make its way to Nationals). Well, that’s no more. On October 20-21, the rugby world was turned on its head, with Lethbridge losing to CALGARY in the conference semis. On the other side of the bracket, the Pandas devoured UBC, and then narrowly overcame Calgary in the finals.
In short, the PANDAS RUGBY TEAM IS HEADED TO NATIONALS. Lethbridge is not. Calgary is not. UBC is not.
Add this to the ever-growing list of Pandas and Bears sports accomplishments.
Oh, and because rugby is similar to football (similar enough…) this makes up for the Bears football season, right? RIGHT?
