As the chillier weather surrounds us this time of year, it’s easy to hide our work-in-progress bikini bods under our cozy knits. But before we abandon aspirations for a booty that looks like the peach emoji, take a look at some of the indoor fitness studios popping up around the city. Each of them has a distinct approach to fitness and stellar deals for new members, so you can figure out the right fit for you, all while staying warm at a low cost. See below!

  • Sattva School of Yoga
    • Who they are:
      • Rameen, founder of Sattva School of Yoga, originally started the studio in the loft he lived in between travels to India where he learned traditional yoga practices from Sri K. Pattabhi Jois.   • Queerflex
    • Who they are:
      • As Canada’s first non-profit gym, Queerflex is focussed on creating an accessible fitness space for queer, trans, and non-binary people.
    • What to expect:
      • Queerflex primarily offers one on one personal training in addition to group circuits and classes. They have a large variety of classes and registered programs, ranging from circuit training dance, flexibility, mobility, kickboxing, and more. With their holistic approach and focus on mental health, Queerflex also provides youth programs and education workshops with access to mental health resources.

  • Rock Jungle
    • Who they are:

    • Who they are:
      • The name says it all – Evolve Strength specializes in strength training and providing access to a variety of health professionals including chiropractors, physiotherapists, massage therapists, and acupuncturists.
    • What to expect:
      • Their facilities feature strength training equipment to accommodate powerlifters, cross fitters, olympic weightlifters, and general strength training. Trust me – your squats will thank you.

  • YEG Cycle
    • Who they are:
      • YEG cycle started with Albertans who saw an opportunity to offer an innovative and dynamic form of group exercise that shakes up traditional indoor cycling.     • What to expect:
      • Intense music and light shows (from over 400 lights!) better than your local nightclub. 50 minutes of spin and weights help improve cardiovascular health and strengthen your upper body, core, and legs. All in all, YEG cycle will give you an intense cardio and strength workout, and once you’re sweaty and happy you will get a cool towel and a big high five to celebrate!

  • Champs Boxing Studio
    • Who they are:
      • Champs was established by eight-time Women’s World Boxing Champion Jelena Mrdjenovic. It is a boxing fitness studio adaptable to all fitness levels. No prior boxing experience or championship belt required!
    • What to expect:
      • High energy, music-driven classes with your own punching bag in a dark “knockout” room dressed in wicked lights. Think high cardio, plyometric-style exercises, and lots of sweat. They also have technical and drill based boxing classes and bootcamp classes which focus on high intensity interval and strength training.
